Tobias Illg, PhD student in the group of Prof. Dr. Volker Hessel and performing his PhD at the Institut für Mikrotechnik Mainz (IMM) in Germany, was nominated by the scientific council of the IMM for the "Best Paper Award 2010/2011.
The paper entitled “Flow chemistry using milli- and microstructured reactors – From conventional to novel process windows” was published 2010 in Bioorganic & Medicinal Chemistry, being invited for the special issue “Tetrahedron Young Investigator Award 2010: Professor Seeberger”.
It highlights how chemical reactions can benefit from the use of milli- and micro structured devices and how existing chemical protocols can be changed towards process conditions hitherto not applicable in standard laboratory equipment. It gives a broad overview on the application fields of “Novel Process Windows” and how this idea started changing the chemical world in the laboratories.
