The course provides insights in excited states of molecules and molecular materials. Fundamental concepts and process are discussed such as energy and spin of excited states, transitions and processes like energy and electron transfer, followed by linear and circular polarization of excitation and emission. The second part focuses on the optical properties of aggregates of molecules, of semiconducting polymers, and of light-sensitive molecules in nature related to photosynthesis and the chemistry of vision.
